During the winter of 1953, Colin Chapman put pencil to paper and devised a chassis for a new car, based on the smallest number of tubes that could be used in a triangulated structure. To go with this chassis Colin wanted a new, more streamlined body that would be developed by Mike Costin’s brother, Frank, who worked as an aerodynamicist at de Havilland Aircraft.
